For up to 12 children from 0-24 months, minimum 1:3 staff ratio. A divider in this room can separate the babies from the ‘cruising’ children.
A great deal of adult-child interaction is important with this age group for building relationships and encouraging babies' sense of security and wellbeing. At Sunbeams we work closely with parents to blend with important home routines, such as feeding and sleeping.
Our day is planned around a very flexible routine, and an environment rich in colour, texture movement and sound. Indoor and outdoor experiences might include enjoying a song, rhyme or sharing a book with a cuddle or exploring natural objects in a 'Treasure basket'.
Stimulating floor toys and activity are vitally important as babies are continually learning. They are also encouraged to interact and share with others.
Food is provided for babies who are weaning, following routines and requirements at home.
We have a quiet sleep room as part of the Baby unit where children are allocated a cot and use individual, clean bedding. We use an intercom to constantly monitor the sleep room and in addition, staff regularly check babies and complete sleep charts for every child.
